As I travel back from the recently concluded APCDA Conference 2026, my heart and mind are full. Beyond the rich academic discourse, this conference was a powerful reminder that our work in career development is about the human story nestled within a complex global ecosystem.

Here are my key takeaways from an incredible week:

The Power of the 'Village': Dr. Roberta Borgen and Dr. Bill Borgen challenged us to identify our cultural informants. I'm leaning into cultural humility; prioritising deep connection and listening over immediate action planning.

Systemic Change over Adaptation: Dr. William Donald's 'Weather as a Career Metaphor' is a game-changer for inclusivity. Dr. Ahmad Shamsuri Bin Muhamad reminded us that attitudinal barriers are often tougher than physical ones. We must advocate for Universal Design in the job market itself.

Redefining Success: Edmund Cheong (PERKESO) and Dr. Ahmad Zabidi highlighted the impact of AI and the 'Golden Tsunami.' Success isn't a GPA; it is holistic development. We aren't just job matchers; we are navigators of meaning.

Industry in Action: Visiting Grab and AirAsia anchored our theories in reality. Seeing their agility firsthand underscored why our graduates must be adaptive and digital-first.

Huge thanks to APCDA and Universiti Malaya for an unforgettable experience. See you in Singapore for 2027!
